What CEO’s Are Telling Us
I recently sat down for an interview with Jeanie Coomber, host of the popular Warriors at Work podcast.
One of the questions she asked involved the types of conversations CEOs have with us and how we help organizations assess their emotional and leadership cultures.
Whether the topic is employee burnout, change management, employee engagement, or employee turnover/retention, the message from CEOs is the same. “We are trying to have the conversations with our people, but we don’t know how.”
The reason for this is simple. Business schools do not teach leaders how to navigate the emotional component of leading.
Yet, according to a McKinsey study, the emotional components of the employee/employer relationship are what is most important and lacking.
This lack of compassion and Respect For People are leading factors in people leaving their organizations. (See the McKinsey article-The Great Attrition or The Great Attraction The Choice is Yours.)
