GriefLeaders Captures High Attendance Awards At TN SHRM Convention

September 19, 2022

GriefLeaders™ co-founder, Anthony Casablanca, presented the company’s signature training talk entitled The Elephant In The Room Of Change during two sessions at the recently held Tennessee Society of Human Resource Management’s state convention in Knoxville, TN.

Both the September 15 and September 16 presentations were recognized by SHRM as “High Attendance” award-winning sessions.  Both talks filled the halls to capacity.

After the sessions, Anthony commented that “while I am humbled by the turnout for both sessions, it is not surprising.  The Elephant lurks in every company, and leaders are not trained on how to navigate the emotion of change their people experience.”

When asked to describe the link between an elephant and change, Anthony offered the following.  “Change, be it a personal tragedy or due to an organizational initiative, evokes emotion.  The science of change is clear on this.  Search the science of change, and every model will show an emotional response to change, and those emotions are the stages of grief playing out in the workplace.  Grief is The Elephant In The Room in every single company.”

He went on to say, “change is about people and emotion, not project management.  Unfortunately, leaders are never trained on how to deal with the emotional component of change.  That is why 75% of change initiatives fail to deliver the expected results, according to a Harvard Business study.  McKinsey subsequently found that 70% of those initiatives failed because of human/cultural issues.  Not because they were the wrong technical solution or a poor strategic fit.”

Anthony is now headed to Wyoming to deliver a similar talk on September 27.
