The 7 Questions That Make Change Emotional

During a recent virtual training session for The Association of Talent Development, I discussed why personal and organizational change evokes such strong emotions.

The truth is when life deals a person a kick in the gut or you announce a significant organizational change, our minds quickly turn to answering these seven questions as an instinctual survival mechanism.

We refer to these as the 7 Questions of Change and Grief, and the answers to these questions create the emotional response to change.

Unfortunately, most change management processes fail to recognize, acknowledge, or properly deal with this scientific fact of change.  Instead, most change management processes are glorified communication and project management plans and not true CHANGE LEADERSHIP plans.

Enjoy the clip.  I certainly enjoyed the time spent with the ATD-Chicago group during the event.
