The Change Management GAP

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I recently spoke at the Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) national convention in San Diego.

The talk was titled “Murder on The Change Management Express” and is based in part on this excerpt on the difference between 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙝𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙚 and merely managing change.

The timeline of the crime begins when the focus of implementing change is project management, ignoring the science and psychology that change has on people, which clearly shows that change is emotional and triggers the stages of grief in people.

A McKinsey study found that 70% of all change initiative failures are due to “human and cultural issues.”  I would submit that this finding is closely linked to most organizations managing change, not leading change.
