Funny How Life Prepares Us For Where We Are
Guy and I are often asked, “How did you become experts in employee grief, change, and helping grieving employees excel at work?”
Expert is such a loaded word. It implies that we have arrived, that we know it all.
We have expertise and a teachable point of view, but we have not arrived.
We continue to add to our body of knowledge with every new client and every new experience.
Much like Steve Harvey in this clip, our expertise has developed over the past three decades.
Unbeknownst to us, God, or the world if you prefer, has been preparing us for this calling.
Looking back now, it is clear that every personal loss, every personal tragedy, every employee layoff, plant closing and shift reduction, every employee who we helped through a personal crisis by supporting them at work even when the policies said otherwise, and every family who lost a loved one that has crossed Guy’s path was put there to prepare us to help organizations and leaders pay it forward.
And thanks to the leaders that crossed our paths which, unbeknownst to them, served as teachers and role models, helping to grow our expertise.
That is how we became “experts” at what we do.
